Foundation crack repair for Troy's poured-concrete basements

Updated October 19, 2026 · referral service, not a contractor

Troy is poured-wall country, so crack injection is the bread-and-butter repair here. A technician seals the crack face, sets ports, and injects polyurethane (flexible, swells on contact with water) or epoxy (rigid, structural). Done from inside in two to four hours, no digging. The judgment call is which cracks are structural.

Shrinkage cracks vs. movement cracks

Why Troy's clay matters even for poured walls

Brookston, Colwood and Shebeon soils swell when saturated. A poured wall handles that pressure far better than block, but the pressure still drives water through any crack it finds, and it's why an injected crack that was dry for ten years opens up again after a wet year. Polyurethane's flexibility is the reason contractors prefer it for leaking (as opposed to structural) cracks here.

Tie-rod holes and pipe penetrations

The round weeps in a grid are form tie holes from the original pour, plugged with mortar or tar that fails after 30–40 years. Each is drilled out and sealed with hydraulic cement and a polyurethane plug. Gas, water and electrical penetrations are sealed the same way.

Cost

HomeGuide national average: $250–$800 per injected crack; multi-crack jobs are priced per crack with a trip minimum. Structural stabilization of a bowing wall runs $2,000–$12,000+. Troy quotes come from the contractor.
